Okay. Did you QT all of them? There is a VERY high chance they could spread disease to your Betta.

I just scrub my tank clean with a toothbrush. Lazy snails.....

You really should have. Lets hope they don't have anything.

EDIT- Yup, a common Pleco. They get about 2 feet.

Yeah, but you have to QT them.

They could have tons of stuff on their shells. Most diseases don't effect them, they just carry it.

They could have ich, parasites, fungus, bacteria, anything really.

I get that, but you need to find him a temporary tank or bowl or whatever so you can monotor the Pleco's health, and QT the snail for at least 2 weeks to kill any diseases that might be lingering on his shell.

Does that make sense?

I would personally take the pleco back to the store or re-home it. A common pleco gets very large and although I've never kept them I have heard that they do have a very high bio load. They can be aggressive towards other fish too.

As far as "cleaning" the tank goes, adding fish that eat algae will help, but only to some extent. It could make the problem worse because More fish poop=easier for algae to grow. If you have a light on your tank don't have it on very much. This will cut down on the algae significantly. Also moving it out of direct sunlight is good too. Plecos and snails need food other than algae in the tank usually too.

In the future I would always quarantine a new animal that you put in the tank. Especially if you purchased them at walmart.

"Whoever said fish were low maintenance obviously never owned fish"
