Question Molly Fish Questions.

So my Molly gave birth (she was pregnant when I bought her, I did not know she was until she had them), anyhow one is left. He is pretty big now and is swimming fearlessly with the platies and his mother.

When he gets bigger I will need to put him in a new tank, as the main tank would be too overcrowded if he stayed in there.
The biggest tank I could get is a 10 gallon, could he live his life comfortably in a 10 gal? If so, can I put other fish in the 10 gal with him? What other fish get along with a Molly?

Although a ten gallon is definitely not ideal, he could live out his life in it as long as water quality is maintained. Mollies do have a large bioload relative to their size, though. Usually a 20 gallon is recommended, especially since they are social fish and prefer groups of 3 or more. I wouldn't put any other mollies with him despite this, though, as he will fight with males in such a small space and harass the females (and probably get them pregnant!). Maybe you could get him 4 cory friends? :)

Life.

I think a ten gallon should be fine, just try not to overload it and your good :) They need filters and bubbler (or some way to get air in the water). Their is so many fish that will live alright with mollies. Platys, guppies, mollies, tetras, and probably more. I wouldn't recommend guppies because they do like 3 or so of them. ( I had 5 guppies and a platy once and the platy schooled with the guppies-SO CUTE!! ) Some sites say 5 is the smallest you could go, some say 10. Sometimes you just have to go with instinct. Most of the fish you could get with him/her are breeders ( GUPPIES, mollies, platys ) I'm not sure on tetras, but I am sure someone will fill that part in for me :) I've got like my 20th generation of my guppies. Goodluck with the little guy!! :) I personally love mollies.

As long as it's not a sailfin it should be ok, sailfins grow to be fairly large compared to normal molly's.

The mom is in a 14 gallon. I would be putting the baby (when it gets bigger) in a 10 gallon. :)
