Axolotls aren't too expensive. If you are willing to pay shipping, I know people who sell them for about 10 dollars each for a wild type. The most expensive one being about 30 or so... Especially cheap considering how long they live :D

Aren't thee 3 different kinds? Wild Type, Albino, and a Yellow one? And purple, in your experience, do you think 2 could be in a 29 gallon?

Wild type (in which there are so many different colors..greens, greys, blacks, browns)
Albino
Leucistic(albino with black eyes instead of pink)
Gold albino
Melanistic
and actually a very pricy new morph the "Copper" albino.. RARE..

Also there is a green glowing version of each of those kinds!

Depends on the pet store. Most I've seen is 35 for the gfp of one of the morphs. Actually looking at the guy I knew before, his prices have lowered. All the morphs are 20, normals are 10. For gfp add 5 dollars, so 15 or 25.

Pet stores like to make them pricy, but they also usually confuse actual salamander babies or mudpuppies for axolotls!

I'm going to have to keep a lookout, I've never seen them around here. So how many can I have in a 29 gallon?

Not me! Only ones I have seen are bred by my friends mother, and to me they're free lol They are very hard to breed though.

Hmmmm... I personally would only put one, but I like to let them have plenty of room to swim around. It has the same foot print as a 20 gallon correct? You CAN put two in, and might get away with it. But you'd need to give them some good hiding places and plants! Here's some tank examples to get you inspired!! :D

This tank is a 35 gallon with 2 young axolotls

50 gallon tank with 4 youngsters

Also this will show you how big they can get

It's 30" by 12", so bigger than a 20 gallon. Do Axolotls move allot, and can you inteact with them? Like, will they take food from your hands?
