A little nervous...

This Monday the 16th my partner Neil is going to have open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. He was born with aortic stenosis and they told him he'd have to have his valve replaced probably the time he was in his mid 30's, they were right on. He'll be in the ICU for probably 3 days and in the hospital for a week. His recovery will take around 8 weeks total. I know everything will go well but it's still a bit scary.

Has anyone here had open heart surgery?

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

That is pretty nerve wracking but it sounds like something very necessary to give him the best quality of life - or to even save his life.

Try to relax - it will be over before you know it. Please let us know on Monday how he's doing.

I'm sending good wishes your way.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I hope everything went well yesterday and that Neil has a speedy recovery. Well, "speedy" may not be the right word for a total of 8 weeks, but I hope his recovery only needs the recomended 8 weeks. :)

Man I know how scary that is. My grandfather had an aortic rupture last year..Thankfully he made it out okay. I am wishing the best for Neil as well.

I know how it can be scary to have a partner dealing with heart related issues. My boyfriend was born with a Bundle Branch Block(can't remember if right or left), making him have three heartbeats and always the fear of heart complications.

Surgery is always scary, even when it's just explorative. But I know my grandpa had his ruptured aorta replaced and is still walking around today. Doctors are very smart, I'm sure they will be performing at their best. I wish him luck on a speedy recovery!
