SIP Sinatra

Well Sinatra died yesterday. I'm really confused about what happened. I checked the disease thread and read about symptoms, but his symptoms didn't match anything! When I first got him I put him in a 10 gallon tank. He acted stressed and didn't eat much, so I put him in a 1.7 instead. He still nipped his fins a bit, but the 1.7 seemed to make him happier than the larger tank. I noticed he was acting lethargic, resting a lot. So I added some stress coat to his water day before yesterday. There wasn't a change, and he wasn't eating much, and then he passed away. There was no velvet or ick, and he didn't have swim bladder issues at all. Ever since I got him he nipped his fins, so maybe he was just depressed or something. I feel awful about it. Does anyone know what it might be, or ways to prevent death in other fish if they show these symptoms?

Sorry for your loss. He was really beautiful.

When you don't know how a fish died, its best to be extremely careful and sterilize all equipment, decor, and tanks that were in contact with the fish... Mostly just as a precaution.

Thanks, I washed the tank with hot water and vinegar and put it out in the sun, I will refill it Thursday. Since he acted strange all along I got to thinking he was just a strange fish, but maybe he had something.

I would recommend bleaching it too. I try to be very, very careful around disease.

I will do that, what should I do after I scrub it with bleach in order to keep the bleach from hurting the fish? Just run hot water through it for a while?

^And soak it with water conditioner to make it aquarium safe. But make it double or triple the dose: so lets say 2 drops a gallon would now be four, or six. I did that with my aquariums and they are just fine :)
