I'm saying two days because that makes it easier, but it wasn't even that long. And it's my fault, isn't it? You were fine until I put you in the tank, and then you went from bad to worse to gone. I'm sorry, I'm so damn sorry.
Mom said to call you Nux, called you her grandfish as I texted her pic after pic. My Dad texted me a long brigade about how you weren't a 'pet' and THUS you weren't a breach of my dorm contract. And he told you to keep me happy.
Not even 48 hours, and finding you this morning was a gut punch, and I keep tearing up over it, and you're still sitting in the tank because I keep hoping that you're going to give a little flutter, and you're not dead just sick and I can FIX this.
I'm Sorry. Sorry I let you down little buddy.

Aww, I'm so sorry. I know how it is to have a first pet you loved so much just torn away from you. I had done the same thing with my boy- left him in his cup overnight, hoping he would just stir like you did but somewhere in my head I knew he was 100% dead and never coming back.
I hope you've found some consolation on this site among others who have suffered the same thing. Good wishes to your fish, and you as well. It isn't your fault- he probably had been sick when you got him. Heck, my fish was sick weeks before I found out, and by that time it was too late. Find comfort in knowing that it wasn't your fault, and the fact he had passed on hadn't had anything to do with you. He would want to stay if he'd had the choice- you seem like you had a great chance of providing him a good life.
Have a happy life, Nux, or whatever your pet name for him was besides your mother's suggestion. S.I.P.
