Right now, if anyone's in/near CA, I brought with me some Susswassertang
duckweed and salvinia.

50c

Susswassertang is a hardy plant in the fern family. It looks like seaweed and attaches to objects over time.*

I haven't killed any yet and it grows really fast (fast for what it is) in my window side tank. I've even left one in a jar for two months with two snails and no food. Although it hasn't grown, it has died either.

Doesn't take well to frequent waterchanges...

Fun fact: Susswassertang is a male gametophyte of a fern... :O forever missing its female counterpart it seems ;)

I'm hoping to have glosso and giant baby tears available in September.

Here's a list I found concerning CA. I don't know if it's a complete list or not. http://www.cal-ipc.org/landscaping/d...uatic%20plants
Salvinias are okay as long as it's not a giant one.

EDIT: I found a post on another forum and saw these links.

Good News!

I just did a little research on the specific scientific name of my plants.
I do NOT have giant duckweed, or giant salvinia. Mo is partially correct, the giant varieties Salvinia Molesta and
Spirodela polyrhiza are often illegal.

The variety of duckweed I have is the butterfly shaped, called Lemna minor and is infact native to Carlifornia

The salvinia species I have is Salvinia natans

Both are legal in California.

Thank you Mo for the heads up.

do these plants grow alright in low light? i need some more plants for my 29 gallon, and I'm thinking the duckweed would be the perfect floater.

Out of sheer curiosity, what kind of trouble can you get into for selling illegal plants?

Fines?

Probably... Knowing California lol. I supposedly have an illegal plant, not sure if it is true or not... I have never put any plants down the drain, besides duckweed which I have found in the wild when I went on vacation. I always throw them in the trash and allow them to dry.

I read it somewhere and it's 200$ to 4000$ and up to 180 days in prison, if I'm not mistaken.
