If my 6.6 gallon wasn't still new, I would give you plants. All my cuttings are filling in the places that are still bare

Now is the time

Have you looked on Craigslist for your area. I'm kind of in the same situation and I've found a few free plants that way. Search different things too not just aquarium plants. Try plants, fish, aquarium, or even the name of the plant you're looking for. Best of luck!

Resa, I see you are in Louisiana. Anarchis, cabomba, duckweed, water hyacinth, hydrilla, lagarosiphon and water lettuce are all commonly found in ponds and streams.
Everything except for the first 2 are considered invasive weeds, which means you can pull out and keep as much as you want (just don't put any back!) There may be a limit to how much anarchis and cabomba you can gather - you can ask about it anywhere you get a fishing license.
Generally, the limit is for amounts you could re-sale. You can grab a few strands for your fish tank just fine, but you can't pull out a few 5 gallon bucket's worth.

If you copy any of those names into your search bar, google will be happy to give you a picture ;)

And they are commonly found in any body of water. if you know where there's a public park with a pond, there you go! I get most of my plants by removing invasive species from public water.

Banana leaves will rot and pollute your tank.
