Question Is it too cold for me to purchase a Betta through the mail?

Hi,

There have been some very nice Bettas available through this site recently. I've been tempted to get one or two, but it is so so cold right now, where I live - northeast NY - nightime windchills bring the temps down to thirty below - that it just seems unfair to put a fish through that kind of temperature stress. I don't know much about this shipping of fish thing - so could use some enlightenment here. BTW - I'm in northeast New York. Is it just safer - all around - to wait until spring?
Thanks,

WendyK

A rep. breeder is not going to ship in this crazy weather even with heat packs just not worth the risk.

I am sure the breeder will still have some in a month or so. So just wait or you could try and put the ones you want on hold.

100Gal Cichlid tank, 80 Gal planted Community, 20Gal planted Betta, 7gal planted Betta, 20gal goldfish grow out. Yeah I like fish.

I guess you can always talk with the breeders if you're really interested in a fish maybe they can save it for you :) to be honest people in this forum is very kind and friendly you can always get to an agreement with them

I would hold off until the weather warms up. I know a breeder that just shipped some fish and all were lost because of the cold. Another person I know of lost fish because they stayed on her porch too long because she wasn't able to get to them soon enough.

I would not do it. See if you can pay for the fish now and have them shipped later if you really like a specific fish.

Besides the cold weather the post office isn't always reliable.
