Shipping bettas?

I'm beginning to believe the number of betta I have is too much of an undertaking.. and I'm thinking I may adopt some of these fellas out.

Which will be hard, as I am attached to every single one of them.

But I was wondering if anyone had any shipping tips.. or any advise that may make me less worried about shipping these guys. I read the official shipping thread but I would really like to hear personally from folks who have shipped these guys before.

I'd appreciate it.

Boys: Ichabod, Canary, Perseus, Louie, Cherokee, Rojo

Girls: Marie, Hilda, Pixie

Rest in Peace: All of my former fishies. <3

I ship bettas/ guppies all the time.
Just make sure you double package them put plenty of impact absorbsy stuff like packaging peanuts, styrophome, or bubble wrap around them. If its cold out that you line it all with newspaper and wrap your heat pack in newspaper as well, also make sure its not directly touching the shipping bags it can get too hot then.

Last but not least make sure your heat pack will last the amount of time its going to take to ship from you to them. My 72 hour one usually lasts 3-4 days for me.

I also breed and often sell guppies, I have the following strains.

Double Dark Blue Moscows, Half Blacks, and Albino Blue Topaz.

If your interested in purchaseing a pair or trio just pm and i'll let you know what I currently have ready to sell. Or if you just want to see pictures pm me.

I do most the same as Astro. You also have to make sure they have enough air to survive the trip, though, or the poor babies won't make it.

Also, have you posted an update on the fish you're adopting out? I'm looking for some more fish currently and would be very interested.

Same basic thing here. Though with bettas I add a plastic bag and shredded paper in case a bag pops the fish can sit it in the wet paper and most likely survive the trip.

I've only shipped priority and have zero DOAs. I use 72 hour heat packs and either styrofoam or reflective foil insulation (more expensive but I like it).

Who am I? Well I am a Junior Member of the International Betta Congress and a breeder of white HMPKs, red dragon HMPKs, black/red dragon HMPKs, metallic multi HMPKs, blue masked HMPKs, and now multi color HMs. Soon to add black HMs. I will be showing in New Breeder class in fall of 2012.

I've never had experience with shipping fish, but I have heard that a lot of people wait until warmer months, just to be on the safe side!

I'm sure a lot of people here will help you feel more confident in shipping.
