Hey There...

My name is Heidi.
I am a Betta owner on a break.
I use to be the mom of 3 handsome boys that I kept in separate 3gal. tanks.
It broke my heart when I lost 2 of them last October when the freak snowstorm hit the east coast and we were without electricity for almost 2 weeks.
We tried to keep our little friends alive, but failed.
My last boy died a few weeks ago. I assume it was dropsy. He was with us for almost 3 years.
I have been snooping around this forum for a few days now and love to read all the posts and see the beautiful fish you all have
I thought I was done keeping a tank (or tanks) up, but you all sucked me back in!
Right now we are in the middle of kitchen remodeling and I will have to wait till we are done with it to get a new Betta.
As soon as the kitchen is finished, I will need a new friend to keep my company while I do the dishes and cook for my family

Well it's good you're coming back to the fishy world It sucks to have something happen that kills your fish... The one who lived with you for 3 years was at a pretty good age though :)

Breed for the breed, not for the money; the words any REAL breeder would understand.

You must know nothing in order to know all, for all is nothing and nothing is for all.

Hi! We're in CT and that storm was hell. I kept the fire going just for the fish and I still lost one.

Have fun with the kitchen remodel! I really want to do the same, but will have to wait. ;)

Hello and welcome back to fish keeping when your ready. I am already worrying about winter and power outages although here in TN we have not had much snow the last few winters. I live in the country and my son lives in the city so I guess I could take my Betta there if its going to get bad. Just went though a power outage here a week ago after a terrible wind storm took down 3 trees along with the power lines of course but didnt have to worry about keeping him warm at least as its been very hot here. But I did lose the cycle in my tank so having to start over. Good luck and happy Betta shopping !

P.S. sorry you lost two of your boys due to no power thats so sad .

Remember the Light at the end of the tunnel may be You.

thanks for the warm welcome!
We really tried! Filled plastic bottles with hot water that we boiled on the grill to submerge in the tanks. Wrapping them towels. Keeping them close to the fireplace... I was so heart broken. All together we lost the 2 Bettas and a colony of 12 Hermit Crabs. The snake survived under my sweater.
For me it was such an unbelievable situation! I am from Germany and we do not have above ground power lines that a tree could take out.
This is my 6th year around and I am getting used to frequent darkness due to a tree falling over or heavy rain :)
