The newest n00b!

Hi all,

I'm a college student, and to combat my loneliness at school, I've decided to get a finned friend. I just got Sashimi, a twin-tail half-moon, as well as a lovely habitat - a Fluval Edge 6-gallon with a heater, a few plants, a fake rock structure, and a few ghost shrimp.

I look forward to learning more on the forums and getting to know people! Feel free to comment, question or criticize (hey, I'd rather know right up front.)

Thanks!

Hey, if you've only got one, pamper it, right?

Hello and welcome to the forum

Beautiful tank you got there for Sashimi There's no hood on that tank - correct? If not, bettas have been known to jump so you might want to lower that water level or get something to keep him in the tank.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Placing Saran Wrap over the top works as well for keeping fish in but with the water level so high there might not be enough air...
You started out very well! Your betta is a double tail incase you didn't know. Other then the fact he might commit fish suicide he looks great!
I have a feeling he will live a very happy life with you!

Thanks all!

The Edge is actually a six-sided tank, as you can see from these picture below. Before I saw the tank in person, I thought the same thing, and thought I'd have to keep the water level very low or fabricate a lid.

I was worried at first that Sashimi would have a hard time getting air, but he figured out the open area very quickly, and isn't the least bit bothered by the filter, which creates very little turbulence on low and with the diverter I made in place.

Oh that's sweet :) I had no idea that there was another "side" at the top.
