Hi from North Carolina with "Chemo"
Hi betta keeper friends! I am a first time betta "Mom" (as of 8 mo. ago), when I received my little boy as a gift, just after I was diagnosed with cancer. I named him "Chemo"... perhaps he is a distant cousin to Nemo. :) About a week ago, Chemo started looking pale, and has a "patch" on his back at the base of his dorsal fin. (not ich, fin rot or velvet symptoms). He isn't hanging out at the bottom and swims normally. I've researched dozens and dozens of websites, but none of the illness descriptions seem to fit.
Being a gift, we didn't initially want to offend my sis and we were told that the bowl was large enough for him. After surfing the web for advice, we understood quickly that the bowl he came in, although pretty in "pink" was not adequate for his needs. Six days ago we began salt water "therapy" and he seems to be doing better. Yesterday, we bought him new digs... 5 gallon aquarium with filter, heater and several silk plants to hide in. We also got Prime, and API Stress Zyme + which was recommended by Petsmart staff. I'm posting a pic here, so if you can help determine what might be going on with the patch on his back and tail fin fading, I would be forever grateful. My little fella is very special, and I would be really hurt if he doesn't recover! Thanks so much in advance!
