Thumbs down Hi from North Carolina with "Chemo"

Hi betta keeper friends! I am a first time betta "Mom" (as of 8 mo. ago), when I received my little boy as a gift, just after I was diagnosed with cancer. I named him "Chemo"... perhaps he is a distant cousin to Nemo. :) About a week ago, Chemo started looking pale, and has a "patch" on his back at the base of his dorsal fin. (not ich, fin rot or velvet symptoms). He isn't hanging out at the bottom and swims normally. I've researched dozens and dozens of websites, but none of the illness descriptions seem to fit.
Being a gift, we didn't initially want to offend my sis and we were told that the bowl was large enough for him. After surfing the web for advice, we understood quickly that the bowl he came in, although pretty in "pink" was not adequate for his needs. Six days ago we began salt water "therapy" and he seems to be doing better. Yesterday, we bought him new digs... 5 gallon aquarium with filter, heater and several silk plants to hide in. We also got Prime, and API Stress Zyme + which was recommended by Petsmart staff. I'm posting a pic here, so if you can help determine what might be going on with the patch on his back and tail fin fading, I would be forever grateful. My little fella is very special, and I would be really hurt if he doesn't recover! Thanks so much in advance!

Pics of Chemo

Instead of attaching one pic, I decided to take a new photo, and my post timed out before I edited it! It was a bit difficult to get a good shot of him, he was constantly moving. I only added to his stress, bless his heart (yes, I am southern)
'Hope you can tell what's wrong with our little friend!

I don't see anything wrong either. He looks like he is coming in to his colors. Betta's are quite the color shifters. I had a girl that had a solid white body when I got her. She is now a strange red color

Hello and welcome to the forum

You're doing everything right in taking care of Chemo. Kudos to you for giving him that upgrade. Keep up with weekly water changes and that top fin should start to heal up nicely too.

I hope you're managing as well as can be expected with your own treatment :(

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Chemo. Chemotherapy! Chemotherapy could be the full name? :D

That photo is resized. It says: "My past does not define me. My strength is an illusion. My calm hides a storm. My innocence is not ignorance.
