Wink Samurai the betta

Hello! My name is Alexis and I just rescued a betta from good ol Walmart. We named him Samurai! So far he is looking okay. I am worried about one of his gills. He seems to be getting around pretty well, but the right gill looks a little puffed compared to the left. I am new to rescuing bettas, I just felt so awful for this poor guy! He barley had any water compared to the other bettas, but he was beautiful! I love his fins! I will post the best picture I can in hopes for some opinions, it might just be me being paranoid. Haha!

Is he showing any other symptoms besides the puffed up gills? Is he lethargic? Does he appear to have trouble breathing? Is he swimming around normally or is he just staying in the corner?
I can't really tell from the pictures, are the scales on the gills raised and pointing out? Lastly (sorry for all the questions), are their any white spots?
I am not very good at indentifying diseases (I'm especially bad at telling from pictures), but if you answer these questions someone with more experience in the area can help you better.

I hope your betta is okay!

he is not lethargic and he is eating pretty well. no white spots (keeping an extra close eye out for ich due to the fact that i lost a betta to ich within a week of getting him from petsmart :() since i put the live plants in he seems so much happier today, he is swimming way more then he was yesterday, which is when i got him.
