I've been a shameless lurker on this site for about the last 6 months, ever since my husband saw an ick-riddled, finless Betta at a pet store and decided his mourning period for his late Betta, Carl, was over. Carl had been ANOTHER rescue, and lived for almost 5 years!

Shortly after, we were gifted a female crowntail by a friend (so the little bowl said, anyway, she's certainly not a half-moon) and so I started trying to find more information on caring for these two critters, especially our petstore rescue.

You guys have already been invaluable, so I thought I would join to reap the full benefits of your community! Even learning about the different kinds of Bettas and their genetics has been awesome!

At any rate, for the time being I share a teeny tiny 1 bedroom apartment with a husband, two rescue cats, a ball python, and two Bettas. My husband and I have only been married two months (as of the fourth of july!), and next month we are moving to a much MUCH bigger apartment, and adding his dog to our group of misfits. He's military and does MMA on the side, and I work two jobs in customer service as I try to finish up a degree in Education and Public Policy.

Now I'm considering setting up a naturally planted community tank for several gorgeous female Bettas, all because we went to a different pet store than usual looking for mice for my snake, and brought home a rescue Betta. You guys aren't kidding -- they really ARE addictive!

Hello and welcome to the forum

That's quite the household you have there. Congrats on your marriage and good luck with the move. It sounds like you've already figured out where to put the tanks. And yes, there will be more LOL :)

Welcome to the forum!

Glad that your two bettas found a home with you and your husband! Yeah...very hard not to get more once you have one!

Our new apartment has a bonus room that we have decided is going to be full of aquariums and terrariums, so between Sergeant Slithers, Jackson, Picky Penelope, and the other Bettas that I keep looking at online (bad girl, Bad!) we're going to have a beautiful set up. We both adore animals, and both grew up on "mini-farms" so we can't live without furry companions.

Prissy is my 15+ yr old rescue kitty that I got at 3 weeks old because she had a broken jaw which had to be wired shut, and had to be syringe fed. Smudge is my 3 year old kitty that was leftover from my TNR days (trap, neauter, release; feral colony management). And Rufus is a 200+ lb mutt that animal control was called to come get because his owners didn't realize he was going to be so huge. He's the biggest sweetheart ever. And lastly, Sergeant Slithers is my 2 year old Ball Python that my father gave me for my birthday.

So, there's the current family! Hopefully I can stave off the desire for more Bettas until AFTER the move, to reduce their stress and reduce the amount of STUFF I have to move! ^_^ Anyone want to take bets on how successful that's going to be?

You have quite a menagerie of animals! Glad that so many of them are rescues that found good homes with you!

Eh, depends on how bad you have the bug. I lasted about a month or two before I bought Dragoon.

At least you will give her a loving home!

I have very little resistance to bettas the only thing keeping me from getting a third is the fact that I don't have a lot of spare money to get another/get a 10 gallon so all the bettas could come with me to college.

Honestly, I knew I shouldn't get her, and I kept saying "I'm moving at the end of the month, I'm moving... I should wait...

But then, I looked at her, all clamped up and tiny, and the employee was feeding them all the same size pellets, and she wouldn't even come up to the top...

So yeah. She lives here now. Darn.
