New fish owner - excited!

Hi there!

I just ordered 2 new male Bettas and am just trying to put together 2 tanks for them. I so far have a 5 Gallon Tank - but kinda want to upgrade it to a larger one for each fish! I just want them to be as happy as possible. Any advice would be very helpful!

those are beautiful! you may want to put a little more plants in the tank. You could get some elodea and have that float in the tank. Your fish will love it and it's cheap too. I love your substrate!

Hi, and welcome, you have a nice tank, I think the size is fine if it's for one. I am guessing this is a new set up? If so then please buy Ammonia and Nitrite test kits, get liquid test kits, because the strips are rubbish. Ammonia poisoning is fatal to all fish and is something every new fish owner needs to be aware of so the loss of a beautiful fish can be avoided. If you read the cycling your tank thread it will be explained more clearly. Also good quality betta pellets, omega or NLS are pretty popular brands on here, I myself have the NLS (New life spectrum). Also pellets should be pre soaked in a small amount of tank water for about 5 mins to soften them before feeding, this helps prevent your fish getting constipated. Also I would recommend a good quality frozen food tropical mix. (not freeze dried) I personally hate freeze dried and will not feed to my boy, causes to many problems. Any other questions just ask, myself and I am sure others will do our best to help. :)

Congrats on those beautiful boys!

5 gallon is a great size for a tank. For Christmas I'll hopefully get one for Chip! If your looking for a nice tank for your second one, aim for something the right size that won't make you bankrupt.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!

No fish for now
