Hi! I'm Nicole =)

Hi y'all,

I'm Nicole... I've been reading the forum for the past month and a half... brought home my fish, Motley, about a month ago.

At first, my impression was like many think... that a betta needs basically nothing. I bought a 0.3 gallon over-sized wine glass to put him in, thinking it would be "cute".

The more I've read on here made me realize the tank wasn't big enough for Motley. I transferred him to a "3 gallon" plastic drawer, just so that he'd have more space. No worries, he's not staying in a plastic drawer! I just couldn't bear the thought of Motley being cooped up. He's going to get a real tank for Christmas, a nice 5 gallon one :)

So that's what brought me here... an adventure that went from a 0.3 gallon oversized wine glass, to a (to-be) 5 gallon tank for my boy.

I look forward to reading your posts, and actually being able to respond as a member. As I'm pretty new to all this, I definitely have no advice to give, but there's still stories to tell, and I'll certainly "oooh!" and "ahhh!" at pictures you post!

Hello Nicole & Motley

Welcome to the forum and to the joy of betta keeping. Kudos to you for skipping that wine glass and going with more room for your new fish buddy.

Are you able to heat that rubber container that you have him in? Or do you have another way to keep him warm until you get your new tank?

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

The things I've been reading for the most part seems to say that with the small size, I'd turn him into soup I'm open to suggestions though.

Right now, since it's cold, and my heat is ALWAYS on in the room, I have him left close to the heater so it's a bit warmer than when I had him on the wall opposing the heater. :)
