Hi! I've been on this forum for a couple of weeks, but I haven't introduced myself, so I thought I'd do that.
My name is Eli (pronounced Elly), and I turned 24 last Halloween. As mentioned, I live in Western Australia, with my partner, my stepdaughter, my cat Remy, and our new betta- a veiltail named Rygel (because my partner got me hooked on Farscape... And Doctor Who, but that's a whole different story).
We decided to get Rygel after a full year of research, and I went in thinking "it's just a fish, I won't get attached." And that was, well, WRONG. I love his little fishy face, and he's turned me into a helicopter mum. "Is he getting enough food? Is his water clean enough? Is he going to hurt himself on his heater? WHY IS HE BITING HIS TAIL?"
It turns out that fish-keeping is more stressful than cat-keeping. My cat isn't going to die if you don't clean her litterbox for a couple of days. My cat will stop eating when she's not hungry, and will vocally ask for more if she is. Of course, I've had cats since I was born, so I know well enough how to take care of them. Fish, on the other hand...
Please excuse my rambling, it appears I've wanted to get some things off my chest
So, anyway, I decided to join this forum, as I've seen new fish-keepers and veteran fish-keepers mingling together quite happily. I look forward to getting to know you all!
Also, on a side-note; Remy has shown very little interest in Rygel. Even when she gets jealous of the attention I give him, she merely tries to distract me with her fluffy cuteness. Who's a good girl?
