Smile Hi from Western Australia!

Hi! I've been on this forum for a couple of weeks, but I haven't introduced myself, so I thought I'd do that.

My name is Eli (pronounced Elly), and I turned 24 last Halloween. As mentioned, I live in Western Australia, with my partner, my stepdaughter, my cat Remy, and our new betta- a veiltail named Rygel (because my partner got me hooked on Farscape... And Doctor Who, but that's a whole different story).
We decided to get Rygel after a full year of research, and I went in thinking "it's just a fish, I won't get attached." And that was, well, WRONG. I love his little fishy face, and he's turned me into a helicopter mum. "Is he getting enough food? Is his water clean enough? Is he going to hurt himself on his heater? WHY IS HE BITING HIS TAIL?"

It turns out that fish-keeping is more stressful than cat-keeping. My cat isn't going to die if you don't clean her litterbox for a couple of days. My cat will stop eating when she's not hungry, and will vocally ask for more if she is. Of course, I've had cats since I was born, so I know well enough how to take care of them. Fish, on the other hand...
Please excuse my rambling, it appears I've wanted to get some things off my chest

So, anyway, I decided to join this forum, as I've seen new fish-keepers and veteran fish-keepers mingling together quite happily. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Also, on a side-note; Remy has shown very little interest in Rygel. Even when she gets jealous of the attention I give him, she merely tries to distract me with her fluffy cuteness. Who's a good girl?

Hello from South Eastern Australia! (well, Melbourne).

I know what you mean about fish being harder to take care of than other pets. At the end of the day, even their breathing can be influenced by how well/clean you keep their tank. It's a hell of a responsibility.
That being said, it's also rewarding as hell, and there are heaps of really experienced members on this site in case you need help.
Any questions, just ask :D

Thank you very much! What's the weather like over there? It's been a nightmare over here, I've certainly not needed Rygel's heater for the last four days, his temp hasn't dropped below 27C :-/

Hi Eli

Welcome to the forum. It's nice to have you aboard.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Yes, the transition to cold blooded friends can be a little stressful. People think it's easy but they are much more difficult to read. You'll get the hang of things soon enough though, hehe. People that think fish are relaxing obviously have never had a bad tank day. ;)

taking a break from fish-keeping.
3 lovely male betta still keep me company.
