Hey my name is Lauren and I was on this site a couple years ago caring for my two bettas, Chuck in Florence. I had originally gotten bettas because I thought I could bring them to college with me, but after a year of having them I had to leave them at home because my college said I couldn't keep them in my dorm. They shared a split ten gallon tank with lots of live plants and I loved them so much so it was tough leaving them in my parents care. When I came back from college over the summer every single plant had died leaving the tank barren and empty. Chuck had grown white lumps all over his body that left him crooked and unable to swim properly. Florence had become horribly bloated ( she was always begging for food so my parents thought she was always hungry) Chuck died sometime later and Florence has gotten dropsy. It was really devastating for me and I thought I wouldn't get bettas for a while.

Recently I decided to move back home for community college for financial reasons. My old roommate at college had gotten a betta fish but also had a cat who was obsessed and really stressed the fish out so I took her home.

Florence is still alive and although she has difficulty moving and trouble eating her feisty personality is still present so I don't want to euthanize her although it was hard getting a new fish knowing she's around and not doing well. But I'm trying to make her comfortable.

My new fish who I named Fiona has silk plants ( I do plan on traveling for the summer so I don't want all the plants dying again) and although is in a one gallon tank (it's what i was given and until I get a job I really can't afford to upgrade) she is thriving.

Here is a picture of Fiona
