Hi everyone

After a few years of not keeping a betta, I ran into a beautiful half moon betta at the store. I resisted the urge for five days then went back and bought him.

He's in a 5.5 gallon tank all by himself with a few plants and a piece of driftwood and sponge filter connected to an air pump.

He's pretty active in there by himself. I never had such a beautiful half moon like this before. I love his coloring. Before anything gets said about the heater. It's going back. It already failed and I noticed the fish was a little stressed. I took it out and he wasn't quite so stressed anymore.

I want to get a heater, if anyone is willing to make a suggestion. I'm a little weary of putting a 50 watt into a 5.5 gallon. Suggestions are welcome

I also have a 65 gallon south african tank. The peacocks are still juvenile so I don't know the sexes yet. I have two purple Aceis and two synodontis cat fish. The peacocks have gotten bigger since this video was taken.

Welcome! I have a 50W in my 5.5. Better to have more wattage than less! Just make sure to get an adjustable, like a Hydor Theo or Aqueon.

Beautiful fish, BTW! <3

That's what I'm going to aim for then.

Like I said, I could not resist because he's beautiful. There was another at the store just like him with no fin damage. I went with the one with the fin damage. There is already new growth showing. I'm sure it'll heal over time.

The driftwood adds just the right touch to that tank. You don't see it, in the back there is a over hang that creates a nice shady spot.

His fins looked like they were starting to grow back but now another part of his fin is a bit tattered. After talking with someone at the store, we decided that water changes every day until I start getting a high nitrate reading. I dosed the tank with stress coat did a water change and took some water from 65 gallon, small amounts of ammonia can cause a fish to lose his fins.

I'm starting to think I could lose him. There will always be other bettas to bring home but....

I bit the bullet and picked up a heater this morning. I noticed the temp was not stable in the one tank last night. Temp has gone up enough for me to want to open the balcony door. The temp outside is less then optimal for a tropical fish tank. I don't have to worry about the temp when I open the balcony door now.
