Neon Tetra's Tail looks like it was picked clean.

Hello everyone. Recently I bought 10 Neon Tetras from Petco. I was examining them when I noticed one looks a little fat in the front and picked clean in the back. I'm not sure if this is my eyes playing tricks on the vast size difference, but he looks bad. I tested Petco's water and the ammonia was .25 ppm. not sure if that would make a difference but I made sure not to let any of it out.

I'm including a picture of this and I hope someone can tell me what this looks like. also what I should treat for, or if I have to...euthanize.

Pic is blurry but you can see half his body is messed up

Difficult to see in the photo, but these fish have been bred commercially on a large scale for many years so it is likely that genetic abnomalities have become somewhat more common than what would be seen in nature. That is what I would suspect, though they also seem to be prone to neon tetra disease, which can also cause deformities of the spine.

If he is swimming and eating normally don't euthanize.

Thanks for the fast replies. If he's acting normal I'll leave him be, but what can I do to help? Separate tank with 10 day AQ salt? Stress coat added to water? I'm at a loss never had this happen before.

Watch him for a few days and if he starts to show signs of illness, seperate him and use epsom salt. AQ salt could make it worse
