Snail question

Recently (today) my mystery snail has been acting strange, the food I put in yesterdat is still there and it just hangs out on the side of the tank not moving a lot. Then just now I noticed something black on his side just by his shell entrance. One is all the way out and the other is just under the shell.

Are these parasites or just poo or debris?

I need to know whether to remove him so it doesn't harm my other fish.

Edit: disregard this as I got my question answered.

Probably breathing tubes from head they get O2 from water and atmosphere. They are nocturnal and also scavengers.

What were they?

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!:
If you buy abused bettas from stores to help them, please read the following.
If the store made profit, then it was NOT a rescue. I know you're only trying to help, but you're hurting the cause. If you care, please click the link below and learn the truth.
Please use the same, or a similar signature to support the cause!
Here is a good example of what you could do instead: http://www.bettafish.com/129-betta-chat/110770-he-will-have-die-here.html
