Smile Am I doing the right amount of water changes? :S

My 10 gallon has two adult platies, two adult guppies, and five adult lamb-chop rasboras (much smaller than harlequins), and 14 platy fry. I a doing 40% water changes with gravel siphon once a week. Keep in mind that I have a 20 gallon filter. Am I doing enough water changes??

And, how long does it take for platies to reach their full size??

10 Gallon Tank:

5 and 5.5 Gallon Tanks:

Many of my scaly friends from my original tank from 2011 have passed, except for two! I am in the process of re-doing my tank. :)

what are your Nitrate levels?

This can give an indication of whether or not you are doing enough water changes.

It also depends on how much waste is accumulating on the bottom of the tank, if there is quite a lot when you do your vacuuming, then more would be beneficial before it breaks down to produce toxins.

10g Fry / Hospital / QT tank (as needed)

75g Saltwater Reef, Ocellaris Clownfish, Lyretail Antias (baby), Lemon damsel, Longtail Fairy Wrasse, purple dottyback, snails, crabs and a few LPS corals.

220g Still sitting empty (come on Lottery I need the numbers to come up!)

I'm not sure, I don't have a test kit. :/ Next time I got to the LPS I will get it checked. Most of the time when I vaccume there is a lot of uneaten food because I always put a ton in to make sure that everybody gets food. So you would reccomend more water changes.

If there is a lot of uneaten food sitting on the bottom of the tank between changes then yes I would recommend more changes.

Also try and reduce the amount you feed, start off with a small amount and gradually work up, many use as much as the fish will FULLY consume within 1-2 minutes as a good guide.

is this tank cycled? im assuming it is not, since you dont have a kit.

Get a kit ASAP so you know the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels

I did not know about cycling when I started the tank. :/ It has been running for 9 months, and whenever I get my water checked it is always zero everything, so I'm assuming it's cycled.

Cycled tank will have 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and small amounts of nitrate.
Does the pet store test with test strips? Those aren't as accurate as liquid kits.

My LPS uses liquid kits. They usually say about what you said a cycled tank has.
