Crazy shrimp!

I picked up 12 ghost shrimp for $2 from my LFS and QT'd them before putting them in the tank. 3 of the 12 died, and after I added the remaining 9 in, one mysteriously disappeared... No idea where he got to
I put 5 on my male betta's side of the tank and 4 on the girl betta's side of the tank. Throughout the day, I've been hearing splashes, and I kept thinking a little one might have gotten into the filter, but none are in there...

Then I started to notice my girl betta's shrimp disappearing, and my boy betta somehow had 8 shrimp on his side of the tank... They apparently jumped the divider to get to the algae on his side of the tank, since there's more on his side than hers... I'm glad they're working, but I wish they would stay on the side I put them in. xD

I was in shock too! My petsmart has ghosts for $0.33 each, but to get 12 for $2 is pretty awesome. The remaining 9 shrimp have all made their way to my boy's half of the tank. Don't know if they're afraid of my girl, or if they just want to eat all the algae on his side of the tank. I have noticed them eating the algae. I spent the last 20 minutes, just staring at them. They're sucking on the gravel and pulling the algae off of my plants. Once they tidy it up in there, I'll start tossing in algae wafers for them. They seem to be doing well and my boy hasn't bothered them. He stares at them sometimes, but he doesn't do much else to them.
