I recently purchased some Malawa shrimp to go in the 2.5 Mini Bow with Finch the Betta.
After they were shipped, the seller told me his tank had planaria. Said all I had to do was discard the plants in the shipping bag with the shrimp and all would be well.
Despite his assurances that there's nothing to worry about, I do. Will discarding the plants really take care of the planaria? Even though these shrimp will stay in the 2.5 and not join the others in my 20, I don't want it contaminated.
Will they bum a ride with Finch when it's his turn in the "big tank?"
I'm pretty sure the seller is right... Planaria aren't parasitic so they won't hitch a ride on fish and shrimp, but they would definitely stay in the plants and bag. I would be careful and not add any shipping water, and after acclimation net the shrimp out of the bag into the new tank.
I think planaria are funny! I love to watch fish eat them off the walls of the tank. Though ik theyr not a good sign.I had em a while ago in a tank but I realized I hadn't been paying enough attention to how much I was feeding:/ so I cut back and did a big wawa change and *bringo!*, they disappeared. Btw "bringo" was a dr. Steve brule reference.
