Hi guys, so I just noticed today what I thought was a golden brown marbled bead in my tank to what I then thought was a beetle because it started to move then it suddenly came right up to the front of the tank and then I knew it was a snail! My first snail that is! I just need someone to please help identify it! Never owned a snail and have no idea if it's going to wreck havoc in my tank!
It's really pretty just hope it's not a nuisance.

You should keep him! Ramshorns eat algae and decayed plants. They are not as hardy as other snails (pond & bladder). I had pink ramshorns in my tank. They never ate healthy plants. When I treated a very bad algae bloom, all of them died while none of bladder snails were lost.

Unless you have plenty of food for snails, they won't reproduce crazy.

Were I in your neighborhood, you could throw him in my tank ;)

i just started researching the ramshorn snails and wow are they cool! i had no idea snails came in all different colors! I love the fact that they eat algae and decaying plants. i dont really have algae however my plants have a hard time in my tank so it will be good to know it will eat the decaying ones!

Ramshorns are really neat. One of the few aquatic snails that come in a TON of different colors.
I used to have blue ones and they can grow quite big! I don't just mean the blue ones in particular.

As long as your betta won't eat the snail, and the snails won't start reproducing like crazy, just keep him.

My ramshorns did reproduce, but I did get two of them. :) I do agree that they're not as hardy, I think one of mine died. Luckily, they had 8 egg clutches that hatched, and two on the way!

the one in my tank at the moment in my opinion is rather large! its about the size of my thumb nail. i just dont understand how i have never seen it before? and its so weird because its always at the front of my tank now..i dont understand how i havnt noticed it before! i read that they can have about 15babies at a time which is not to bad if they over populate ill just throw them in with my severums and red tail and have them go to town i guess. i dont want a bunch of snails to be honest lol
