Growing Plants in Filter?

So I bought some Mondo grass on impulse from Petsmart. Turns out it isn't an aquatic plant at all. lol. So instead of drowning it I set it on top of my filter output (Hagen Aquaclear, hasn't had a lid since day one). Has anyone ever tried this? I figure it can't hurt anything, if anything it will just add some extra filtration. Of course the plant itself might not appreciate my little hydroponic scheme, but whatever, it was pretty much doomed to die anyways. I will post a picture tomorrow!

Remember that the tank your fish lives in is his or her's whole world. Ask yourself this question, and answer it honestly: would you choose to live there?

Mondo grass does not grow much at all but it will stay alive. Just don't expect it to do much.

I do that with Lucky Bamboo, Pothos, and Peace Lilies. It should work.
