What kind?

I recently got a 2 gallon tank but I don't know what type of plant would be best. Any ideas?

Java fern can do well in low light but you may have to keep it trimmed if it gets too large.

Do you have incandescent or flourescent. I've noticed that my plants wont grow under incandescent lights but flourish under flourescent. (not sure about LED)

other than that, I'd suggest some stem plants, Its a somewhat small tank and you want to leave swimming room in there, and most stem plants dont get too bushy.

I would switch the incandescent bulb out for a 6500K (Daylight) compact fluorescent like this:

Just make sure your light fixture you can handle the wattage of the bulb you replace it with. You should be able to grown any hardy, low light plant with this in a 2 gallon tank. Some plants I have kept successfully:
  • Marimo Moss ball
  • Java Fern
  • Java Moss
  • Anubias
  • Cryptocoryne Wendtii
  • Dwarf Sagittaria
  • Hornwort
  • Riccia
Make sure you get different types of plants, i.e. some that float and some that root into the substrate.
