Freashly completed npt 10 gal with the odd couple

We just got finished planting our tanks after we received our plant order from http://www.tricker.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi I ordered about 25 dollars worth of plants and had more than enough for all of my tanks this is the first one we will be showing off along with the odd couple who live in it, Elvis my king betta and Jaws the serpae tetra (I know he is a schooling fish but I got him for free when I bought a 29 gallon tank from craigslist) They chase each other around and I am planning on getting 2-3 more serpae tetras, in a week or 2 ill update the pics so everyone can see the growth.

I'd get 4 more Serpae Tetras to make your Jaws happier.

Flame - Red and Blue Veiltail Male
Oswald - Blue Halfmoon Male

you might wanna consider getting a separate tetra tank if you can. they amount of substrate in that tank probably cuts it down from 10 gallons to 8, so there might not be enough space for a king betta and a school of tetras to be happy in there.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth.

Yeah, I agree! Why so much sand? I'm afraid that your roots might not even reach the nutrients they need on the bottom. I like your set up though. :)

That is an awful lot of sand..

You have a beautiful Betta though!

Hello! I'm a former fishkeeper and bettafish.com-er with a rekindled interest in the betta hobby. I don't have any bettas currently, but I'm brushing up on my fishkeeping knowledge with the intention of eventually bringing home another finned friend. ^_^

The sand is thicker around the edges its crowned,I crown the sand because I have had diggers in the past My plecostomus in my big tank he is about 6-7 inches long has actually been able to dig down to the soil, if you have ever had it happen trust me you don't ever want it to happen again, roots will and always do make it through the sand do you think in nature there are fairy helpers running around with tape measures making sure the sand in the bottom of lakes and rivers is only so thick? or that plants go ohh the sand is too thick there I measured it we can't grow there? life can and will always find a way if it didn't we would not exist. in short you do things your way and I do them mine, a thin sand cap is fine with bettas but be careful of tankmates like plecos who will dig, or you might come home one day to find muddy water and a pleco who is hiding in the murky water with a look on his face (when you find and net him) like "what I wasn't suppose to dig in the corner?"
