Potential Mini Planted Tank Idea

So, I stumbled across these on Amazon:

I know they are pretty much too small and poorly shaped to properly house a betta, but I'm thinking it would be a cool way to have a mini planted tank with a few cherry red shrimp. Is this feasible? I'm not sure I would be able to embark on this project for a while yet (I'm afraid the nails/screws I would need to support it might damage my apartment wall too much), but I'd like to get some ideas for set up and types of plants that would work well for future reference.

Absolutely! I've planted a 1.5 litre jar, and Aokashi has some amazing nano-planted tank, so go for it! :)

I'm not so sure about the RCS, though - I don't know what minimum temperature they are happy living in. Ghost shrimp can tolerate cooler water, though, I think(?).

Depends on the plants.

Most of the day, mine just gets ambient light. My first try resulted in a failure, but this time round it is ok. I'm giving it an hour of flourescent light in the mornings and evenings, but that's it.

As long as you can keep the temperature stable, the RCS should be ok. :)

Our apartment windows are pretty drafty, and I'm not sure about the place we might be moving to over the summer. I wouldn't want any sudden temperature drops to harm the shrimp or the plants. What about a lamp with a daylight spectrum light bulb nearby?
