Could I do I do a slanted dirt tank?

I have a fish that is stuck in a small tank because he has trouble surfacing. I'd like to make a low end and a deep end to the tank (only about 6 inches) by making the dirt slant. I want to plant dwarf grass on it. I will have trumpet snails. How deep can I make the dirt and substrate and still have a successful tank?

I find that in a planted tank the fish that are less than 100% felling great will use the plants to rest on so they can stay near the top. You can do a slanted tank if you can find a good substrate that will stay mounded up but just know that it's not necessary. They will use the plants for hammocks

He's probably going to remain this way or get well very slowly. Either way I can always fill in the tank more if he returns to normal. I am concerned about bacteria build up in in the dirt with it being mounded. Maybe I could bury a rock under the soil so I use less dirt?
