Nitrite spike following cutting

I cut back my hornwart yesterday.
My tank parameters are
0 ammonia
6.5 ph
around .75 nitrite
My nitrite is between 0 and 5 prob around 1 or 2 ppm.
The tank itself is has 4 fast growing and 3 slow growing plants.

I cut back enough hornwart that there is now half as much as there was before.
It doubled sense I started my cycle. Should I be worried?
I saved the cuttings if I need to replace them.

How old is your tank? What are the inhabitants? If the tank is going through the cycling process its not uncommon to have a nitrIte spike 3-4 wks in.

Ah yeah its late in the cycle then. Its just been clear up until I did the cutting.
I guess the hornwart was sucking up all the nitrites until then.
I did use tss with my light stocking. Everything leveled out and everyone is fine.
Thanks!
