I'm no expert, but I LOVE my Anubias plants. Mine have been alive for a couple of months now even in my inexperienced hands, and my bettas enjoy resting on the leaves,

If you can find small version of these plants they would work. I know there are "dwarf" species of these plants so look around.

Java fern, anubias, marimo moss balls, mosses (anchor/java/christmas), water wisteria, crypts.

Java fern of all types gets pretty large. Anubias nana 'petite' stays pretty small though.

Everything happens for a reason, but the reason isn't always good.

Hornwort, java fern, java moss, anubias... Even some crypts would work.

My java ferns have been through everything and haven't died! I've propagated my original plant into at least 5 different plants now. I also have had pretty good luck with annubias.

Tanks at home: 5.5 gallon with a male CT betta, 10 gallon with 4 females and an ottocinclus, and a 1.5 gallon hospital tank.
Work tanks: a 1.5 gallon with Nemo, a male VT betta; 2.5 gallon with Blue, a male VT; a 2.5 gallon with a rosy faced barb; a 5 gallon with 2 cherry barbs and a rosy barb; a 10 gallon with fancy guppies; and a 10 gallon with 5 silver dollar tetras!
