Question Algae Ident

I've been battling a bit of algae in my 10G NPT for a liitle while now, but have no idea how to get rid of it or what kind it is. I can rub it off the plant leaves and it comes off very easy, but my substrate is another story. It's on my sand and I don't know what to do. I can't stir it for fear of uprooting plants or getting too near to the soil. These are the best pics I could get.

edit; I've also lowered my lighting from 10hrs a day to 8 hrs.
Lighting specs: one 23W CFL bulb 6500K

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Have you tried snails? xD

I have no idea the type of algae it might be, but in general, I usually just leave my algae be. As long as it's not harming the overall health of the tank and plants I wouldn't be concerned

I have one nerite but he hasn't shown any interest in it. xD Little bugger...
Actually he hasn't done much of anything lately. He didn't move at all yesterday or the day before, but I did find him in the middle of the tank this morning so I guess he's okay.

As far as I can tell, it's not suffocating any leaves or anything so I suppose I'll let it be then. :)

What plants do you have in there? You can add floaters to get rid of the excess nutrients the algae is feeding on. Do a h202 spot treatment to get rid of the remaining algae.

Lowering photoperiod and changing out the light to a 14watt cfl could help also.

Algae looks like hair algae, but it looks like the bba. One of the hardest algae to get rid of completely, I'm battling bba in my chi and I'm kinda winning.

All of my lps and lfs have stopped selling plants for the season (too cold to recieve shipments I guess). :( How would I go about spot treating it? Should I take my livestock out? The h202 won't bother my plants?

Plants:
Cyperus helferi
Narrow leaf elodea
water wisteria
bacopa carolinian
java moss
marimo moss ball
amazon sword

Well it's nice to hear there's hope! ;D I don't want it to get so out of hand that it suffocates my plants.

I'll switch out my light bulb. How many hrs do you recommend? I lowered it from 10 down to 8 hrs.

I've used 10 ml a day through a baby syringe(not sure what it is called but you use it for cough medicine). 1ml a gallon shouldn't harm livestock, but I've heard people doing 5ml a gal. my plants and fish are fine 1 angel baby, 2 Gbr juries, and a baby betta.

What I would recommend is taking out the Marimo ball though since it is an algae and will get affected with h2o2. I'm not entirely sure on the anacharis though, but I remember it gets affected with excel. Turn off filters and lights while spot treating and I also add a power head after dosing so it can circulate the h202 more. If you don't have a powerhead it's okay also. Do water changes, a day after then repeat if necessary.

When the algae starts dying off it will turn from red to white.
