I had a big brown algae bloom after adding a bunch of flourish and now my amazon sword is covered in the stuff. Right now I have my plants in a 1.5 gal bowl in sand but I'm going to be moving them into a 5.5 soon. Is there any kind of critter that will eat the algae off the leaves that won't multiply in my tank or is there an easier solution?
The few times my anubias were covered with algae, I took them out of the aquarium and swept them off with a paintbrush. Some spots took a few sweeps, but it all came off. When I had to clean off my hygrophila, the algae slid right off with a light sweep of my finger. The plants look as good as when I took them out of the tube, if not better.
Would a nerite be able to get on the leaves? I had one a while ago but I feel like it was too big to crawl on the plant itself. I've wiped off the algae with my hands a couple of times and I feel like I get it all but then it comes right back.
There are Horned Nerite which are quite small; I bought mine from JDAquatics. I've never had one of the larger Nerite not figure out how to climb on a plant.
