I guess it could work. A better set up would be to nix the platys and just add more females. The more females you have in the sorority the less likely they are to be severely aggressive.
The problem I have found is female betta's can have their moments of moodiness, If you don't mind the "chance" of a ripped tailed now and again, Personally I really hate it, I just had to remove three female Betta's from a tank this morning because they had ripped three tank mates tails, They grew up with these guys too, been like 4 months or so, Then I guess the mood hit one of them. a ripped fin can lead to furthur troubles for a fish that can if the conditions are left spead to tank mates, It Has to be stressful being attacked no matter how trivial it may appear, I don't like the idea of my fish being stressed, So I try to avoid mixing anything or one that shows any tendency towards acting aggressively towards another.
