So I don't even know if you are still active, but I'm coming back to fish! I ended up stopping because I got crushed after the loss of my girls, but I restarted my 20 gal fish tank

That is the temp of the tank... air temp is about 74-76.
He's still pretty small so the heater makes the immune system stable so the body can focus on growing. Any cures in mind for mild pop eye??

Sorry for such a delay...been running with the grandkids...Both Bettas are doing great. my 20 G has the crown tail 4 neon tetras and a mystery snail. The fifth tetra I found dead last week. Have no idea what happened. My 10 G my betta has been acting weird after he eats. almost looks like swim bladder. So I've changed the tropical food to pellits every 2 days. my 5 G I have 1 platy and 1 mystery snail. The snail is acting strange i'm thinking the platy is picking on him. How are you doing?

I have already read the OldFishLady Water Change Sticky, but thank you. :)

I'm not sure if I'll cycle the 10 gallons or just do water changes, but I really just want to get them in there. It's possible that I will begin by just doing water changes, but cycle the filters in another tank and then move the media into theirs.

CONT. I came home from a rather long trip to find that Merlin (the most recently deceased) had severe dropsy, and it was so far gone that I had to euthanize him.

I do agree that I need to change something in my fish's care though, and I'm currently working on it. You see, I am a a very busy person, and most of my fish's tanks are quite small. Their water needs to be changed multiple times per week to keep the ammonia down, and sometimes I miss a water change because I am away. I am gathering the supplies for two divided 10 gallons, where I will move my fish. I will therefore only have to change the water once weekly, and I'll definitely be home enough to do that.
    Thanks for your concern. :)

    Thanks.

That's okay, no offense taken. :) I agree that a lot of my bettas die, and more often than they should. :/

The longest I've kept a betta so far is about a year. The first betta of mine that died was a petco rescue that had an internal bacterial infection from the start, but I didn't know until it was too late. The second was a 'baby betta', who died of dropsy. I think that it he got it because of cross-contamination though, because my brother's gourami died of the same thing shortly before, and I'd been doing tank maintenance on both his and my tanks, no hand-washing in between. :/ CONT.

Thanks for your kind words they really do help. I actually have two bettas, Guillermo, and then a baby Ash I just can't remember how I edited my profile last time to add him in lol.

I've had bettas pretty consistently the past year and really started to understand theier care thanks to this forum. When I got Max I knew he was sick, normally I'm pretty good about not getting any more fish but he gave me the "please help" look. I think he had a slime coat infection, his fins were matted together, and I also read that that can affect their breathing and appetite. I had been treating him with AQ salt but I lowered his dose and I think I did it too soon and he had a flare up if you will.
I wiped down his hospital tank with clorox wipes rinsed it good put new water with a double dose of water conditioner in it and left it sit overnight. I then dumped that water out and now the tank is sitting outside to air out If you have any suggestions though on cleaning it I'm all ears.

    Thanks again :)

i am sad to hear about your betta and what you're going through. how has he been? what size tank is he in?
my guy is taking a while to recover too...... he's 1 so he's younger than your guy. my guy is in a five gallon currently. i asked about water changes in a thread i posted a while ago. sakura8 (do you know her? :) ) told me if the tank is bigger than 2gal, do 50% water changes once or twice a week with one additional 100% water change per week. feed him frozen foods to get protein. i tried feeding him pellets high in protein and once every two or three days feeding him frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. although i have only been feeding him pellets lately because currently have a bad ankle/back injury. work injury.
i keep his temp 76 degrees and don't let it fluctuate. if you already have it, try using api stress coat......
man, probably overwhelming you with this msge. oh boy......
sakura8 has helped deal with my sick betta.

    hello!
i am sorry to hear that your betta had fin rot. has he been recovering? glad to know you caught it earlier. a 10 day aqsalt treatment if clean water alone isn't helping always helps for that. :) hope he is better?
one of my bettas caught fin rot as well. i treated him with aqsalt, then medicine, and finally water changes three times a week now.... i had to do daily water changes for my boy's five gallon tank bleh! it's a hassle for any size really, lol...
