Hey i want to add something. Make sure you explain about betta acclimation. Some people don't realized it. You don't want to stress your betta with drastic temp change.
And like Sakura wrote they like to jump so if they don't have a lid to cover the tank make sure they leave space between the water level and the tap of the tank , and when they couch them with a net or lure him with a cup make sure they cover it with a hand
Also very big problem that i have with a few people that i introduced to bettas is that they overfeed them.
Don't let the food sink to the bottom of the tank, always removed uneaten food. Explain that it will discompose and contaminate the water.

The best info you can give to someone is the following:
they need warm water of 78-80 F
they need clean water so frequent water changes are a must
    NO VASES as homes
High quality food like Omega One or New Life Spectrum and some frozen foods
They jump so keep their new home covered

Once you know what size their new home is, you can kind of guide them on how often to change the water. 1 gallon or under, at least twice a week 100%; 2-3 gallons, once a week at least 75%; 3 gallons and up, once a week 50%

Let me know if you need any more info. The sticky is okay but I think we may replace it soon.

Hey how is your boys doing? I don't know the betta that i am treating is about 2.6 years old ,i just checked when i bought him. I am kind of driving crazy but you know i love him so i will continue to take care of him. I treated with salt and medications ...i don't know may be he is getting old or it takes time. He really looks like female. His fins so short that he can't really swim a lot and it already for long time. And it takes me about 10 minutes to feed him, because he keep missing his pellets:( So i try to feed him 3 times a day. Oh boy it takes long time. Poor thing knows that he going to miss it,so kind of has his own way to couch it. He is smart :) I don't know if his fins will get better, may be because he getting old, don't know....

Oh brooke thank you for saying hello to me. I feel bad you end up with sick betta again. I did put my advice in your post. Now it a lot of new medications that people recommending though. But usually you have to order them on line. I do know a few people who successfully used Maracyn's drugs. And i really advice to use higher dose of the salt.

Good luck in shool!!! school is important. Yes epsom salt is good you can use it for long time. If you have add stress coat API. It will protect his slime coat and help to prevent infections. Not sure how long you will use epsom salt , i hope he will completely recovery and you can be back to just regular water changes. Long way for you and for him. Good luck! Please let me know if you ever need anything for fish, i will happy to help.Good luck with final exams :)

Hi dbrooke1. School does tend to get in the way of life, doesn't it? Where do you live and would you be comfortable shipping him? Do you think he is well enough to be shipped? Or could you find someone locally?

How is he acting sick? Is he bloated or just lethargic? How big is his tank? For now, clean warm water is one of the best remedies. 4 pellets a day is actually pretty good so I don't think you're underfeeding him.
