Now, Jane has cancer, but seems to be responding to treatment, but my darling Lizzie, who has become very special to me, has also gone into respiratory distress, just like Richelieu. She survived last night, but I think by the end of the day I might have to make The Decision, depending on how she responds to nebulisation.
That's my litany of woe! The trouble with adopting older rats is the constant heartache.

My mouse boy is just fine, though. Tiny, fat and cheeky! :)

How've you been on the non-animal front?

Unfortunately, a week after I had to say goodbye to Darty, and only 6 weeks after I bought them, Jack died due to the resulting respiratory distress, and we had to put Algy down a few days later. Then my tiny, precious heart-rat Darcy got ill. Nothing diagnosable, just extreme old age. He basically just lost all his motor functions, and spent all his time sleeping. I made the decision to put him down too - his death was very beautiful and peaceful, at least, and he was 3.5. So, I lost four rats within a month.
Then Richelieu was by himself, but clearly lonely and pining, so I adopted a fat little cinnamon girl called Kitty for him. Then two more girls needed a home, so I adopted them (Lizzie and Jane). Sadly, Richelieu died a little while after, at the end of September - he went into respiratory distress and had a seizure, which was the worst thing I have ever seen. (cont - sorry this is so long!)

Yeah, it has been a while! I'm super-happy to hear about your little ones. That's a great age.
Sadly, mine didn't do so well. I can't remember which rats I had last time I was here. I lost my beautiful boy Willoughby to a stroke - very sudden, mercifully, but a huge shock. I then adopted two boys from a petshop to save them from a) being eaten by a snake, which was their intended fate, and b) being kept in the terrible conditions they were in. Then d'Artagnan got very ill - he got a dental infection which prevented him eating and made him really sick really quickly, and I had to put him down. At the same time we realised that Jack and Algy, my new boys, had lung abscesses that we tried our best to cure. (cont)

Hey Veggiegirl! Yes, I'm wanting to set up a sorority too...I've already bought a few girls and I'm just waiting to make the space/have the money to buy an bigger tank....might put it in the kitchen or on the one wall of my bedroom that doesn't already have tanks...lol. I think I'm up to over 100 fish now.....starting to get difficult to keep up with them all, so I'm considering rehoming a few of them to some other Canadians I've met online here. Still dealing with some fin rot issues.....a couple of fish have had such a persistent case that I've made no headway in getting rid of it on them and it's very frustrating. I think I just have to not look at Aquabid....if I don't see the fish, then I can't want to buy them, right?

Yeah, I am too. I hope he's swimming peacefully now... And thank you. One of the things I love most about her, is the fact that she has dark teal around her eyes, so it looks like she's wearing make-up. Very cute.~ XD
