That background in chem really shows. Water chemistry is most of the hobby. Everything else is optional and varied. I did poorly in chem, so it's a stretch for me. Fortunately the cycle is not plasma physics. The rest of the parameters are pretty flexible as far as Betta go. Angelfish require more finesse.

I only keep three Betta right now. Just five tanks. Not too serious. I saw how much money a serious keeper can sink into this hobby. I reined myself in right away.

I did take the time to get knowledgeable about the nitrogen cycle. Coached many people through it and learned quite a lot that way. Contacted manufacturers of related products, had a short informative exchange with Dr. Tim Hovanec and such. Don't know much else about fishkeeping other than what I learned here and TFK.

Never thought about fish until four years ago. Great fun reading about other people's adventures, though. Have a deep admiration for keepers now.

You sure have learned an amazing amount in only a year. Do you spend time over on TFK?

Hi there! I just received your package and I just have a few follow up questions, mainly about the filter but first off let me tell you about some of these results.

I rinsed the thermometer and placed in the opposite end of the tank from the Heater, after about ten minutes it's hovering right below 80° F.

The ammonia test kit looks like it's between 0.0 and 0.25, the freshwater card wasn't in the box but I looked up both cards online and compared colors to the Physical copy that I have.

Now about the Filter, can I just add the started sponges you included to the chamber and place it in the tank or will this require some type of conditioning with the fish not being in the tank.

Also, if I begin filtering doesn't that require me to start cycling? I have no clue what cycling is and where to begin.

    -Again Thank-You

Lol! I actually got the name from a McDonald's commercial of all things. The "Give me that filet o fish" one with the crazy singing bass.

your username reminds me of the Joe Nichols song "give me that girl"

I pretty much sing the chorus with the word "fish" whenever I see you post something... lol

Rogue and Roland will jump out of the water if I hold a worm above them. That's about it for the tricks. I've tried teaching Ender, but he's kind of . . . not that bright :)

I'm sorry. I just lost a betta last week. He got sick and developed swim bladder and it got worse and worse until it killed him. Do you have any other bettas?
