Hi, I wanted to introduce myself because I was talking to Ron Moneyhan (my Battalion IT guy) about fish. He mention how his son was really into the hobby and did wonders for Hoffer's Aquatic Life Pets. He told me you were really into the hobby as well. Anyways, I ended up getting a 55g and a 30g long from him which I believe were his son's tanks. So, I wanted to say thank you and I think it is awesome that you are helping others learn and expand their knowledge of the hobby.

Thank you Jack. It gets easier when you do this for a living and are trained to handle things in a professional way. Patience is key to success in this hobby and what better way to teach it than by example? :)

Hi, I was told you may be able to help identify a bug that infiltrated and caused havoc in my tank. If you get a chance, can you check out my thread? Thanks. This thing won't let me post the link but it's called Aquatic caterpillar.

I was reading your contributions to the Ich FAQs. I don't know what to treat my male betta with. He's in a 1 gallon fish bowl. We got him 2 weeks ago. We've done about a 30% water change twice, spaced 1 week apart. He had a three day course treatment with "Betta revive" and Kosher salt for a fuzzy white growth on his ventral fin which is now gone. Today was the first day we noticed the white spots. I feed him a couple pellets of Betta food every 2-3 days. At the aquarium store, the person sold me a medication that has formalin and zinc free malachite green in it. Other meds seemed to just have malachite green in it. The "betta revive" we used earlier for his fuzzy white spot also had malachite green and methylene blue in it, but obviously it didn't prevent him from getting Ich. Any suggestions on what I should actually use?

Hi, from reading your posts I have noticed that you have a lot of knowledge about bettas. I posted a thread under the betta section about diseases titled my beta has a bulge and I included a picture, I would include it in this message but I don't see a place to upload.

My beta is a male crowntail about 4 months old. He has developed a bulge or growth just below his head that is about the same size as his head now. I first noticed something off about three weeks ago. People seem to think it is from over feeding or constipation but I only feed him once a day or sometimes once every other day. I have a one gallon tank and change the water about once a day. The water temp is always above 75 and there are no plants in the tank.

Do you have any ideas what you think it could be? Is it something that might be treatable?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
