so the girls planned for the sorority didnt work out because 2 were just too aggressive, so rather than buy 2 more girls and hope that it calmed down, we decided to split it up since we had the tanks to do it. all of the girls fins go torn up a bit, but 3 of them had especially large chunks taken out. The girls are currently split between 2 divided 10 gallons, heated to 80*. We just set the tanks up last night and i dosed 2 tsp of aquarium salt in each tank to try and prevent fin rot. What recommendations does anyone have for promoting rapid regrowth of the damaged fins. I have been reading so many different things about how long it takes for them to grow and what needs to be done.

I find that veil-tails and plakats can regrow fin tissue rather quickly, especially compared to the more intricately finned deltas, halfmoons, and CTs with multiple ray divisions. If they're mostly plakats and veils, you should see regrowth fairly soon depending on their age. Warm temperatures, salt, and a high protein diet will all help them grow new fin tissue faster. Just remember to discontinue the use of salt after a week or so. As long as the water is clean, and the fish are under minimal stress you shouldn't have to worry about any infections.

well the girl that got really tore up is a delta, and her personality has totally changed. she is currently spending alot of time sitting on the bottom of the tank or in plants in really tight places hiding and now she is ignoring food (she usually devours it like a shark). we have been keeping the water clean and dosing a small amount of salt

She is also holding one of her side fins in close against her body

Not eating and hiding are definitely signs of a possible infection. I would quarantine the fish to prevent any others sharing her tank from getting it. Observe her closely, but do your best to avoid stressing her out any more than necessary.

we are quarentining her now. she has deveolped a redish body sore? and it appears she has whitish cottony growths on her body, they are really whispy and hard to see, but deffinitly there. she doesnt swim much and her back is arched like she is pushing her belly out. she just floats around like that with her tail toward the top of the tank. Im thinking a bacterial infection. any ideas? right now she is in a 1 gal critter keeper and im going to dose 1 tsp per gallon aquarium salt with daily 100% changes. what else can/should i do?
