Sakura8: no, nothing got spilled. Sykes live on the top shelf of my betta hotel. He also has a lid on his normal tank. :/

The reason I use the meds, is I had a horrible case of fin rot and just unhealthy fish last year. All my fish got the fin rot and all were so sad and unhealthy. I researched, and the qurentiened all my fish for 2 weeks and bought them all new nets, deep cleaned every fish item I had, the whole works. It helped. But as soon as I went back tO just water and good conditioner, it came back. And it seems unless I keep a little of each meds in their water, it stays away and they are happy..... So I'm not trying to over dose them, I'm trying to keep them as healthy as I know how :)

I'll be rooting for your little guy. I hope he feels better soon, carzz.

EDIT:

I understand. It's obvious you love your fish very much. :) It sounds like your fish last year got a strain of rot that was very aggressive. Sadly, this happens to all of us at one time or another. We can use the strongest meds to treat it but it still returns with a vengeance. In the end, carzz, you need to do what you feel is best for your fish. You are the one who is with them on a constant basis and who knows them best. If you feel that they are doing better with those things in the water and you are comfortable using them, then you can certainly continue doing what you feel is best for them. :)
