The white patches have nearly all gone but he looks like he has lost a few scales on his body. His dorsal fin is nearly completely gone and the one underneath his belly is starting to rot at the base. His gills seem quite swollen now, and he looks like he has swelling underneath them too. He's still eating like a piggy and swims around whenever he sees me, but is always hiding in his plant or his tunnel whenever I check on him.

This poor little fish. :(

Yikes! It's never a good thing when the rot starts to meet the body. :( Have you been able to start the triple sulfa meds? I'm pretty worried about your guy, I won't deny it.

He's been on the sulphar meds for 2 days. :(

I'll see if I can get another photo for you. He's in a plastic bucket now as he seems calmer with his plant etc and I cover the top of the bucket so it's darker. I've already changed his water today so I don't really want to take him out to put him in a jar just for a photo if I don't have to, but I will if you think it will be useful.

OK, Day 3 of the triple sulphar meds. Holly is more active and his colour is getting brighter but he's still bubbling from the gills and his fins are still disintegrating. I got a photo while I did his water change this morning and you can see how much of his dorsal fin he has lost, and how his bottom fin is starting to disintegrate. It's not like typical fin rot, it's more like the fin just goes see-through and disappears in patches. He has some pin pricks in his tail now too. :(

What do you think? Do I keep going?

Yes, keep going for the full recommended time of treatment. It could be a fin rot resulting from columnaris bacteria which is why it doesn't look like the normal black rot. Hang in there, Holly boy, you can do it!

How long is a full treatment of trip sulphur? The bottle just says repeat in 3 days if needed. So does that mean I should do 6 days?

Yes, 6 days. Even 9 if he doesn't show any improvement.

How is Holly doing?

And you're welcome. I'm glad I can help in any way.
