Moving With a Betta

Hi...

I am moving cross country, and want to take my betta with me. When I moved to where I am now, I traveled by car and taking him in a small tank wasn't an issue.

this time, however, I am flying. I have no idea how to transport him. Before the new TSA restrictions, I would've just put him in my carry-on. But now I can't. Would he survive in the cargo hold? Could I ship him by UPS or FedEx overnight?

I really don't want to leave him behind. I love him dearly and can't imagine my life not having him swimming around happily.

Shipping him would be the best way to go. I know there is a special UPS or Fedex thing that is like "Fish Air". Let me get back to you on that.

You can get special boxes & bags for packing fish for shipping. You can also get heat packs to deal with the temperature. I'd tend to think that checking him would work better. That way you know that you can get him as soon as he arrives. There are a lot of fish stores online that actually offer fish shipping via airlines, and you go pick them up at the airport, so I'm sure there's some way you can check him to make sure he won't be thrown around.

Wow. Who knew? I'm new to the hobby so I never thought about it before. Call your airline and ask 'em. People ship their cats and dogs in the cargo hold and as carry on. Why not fish?
