It depends on the size of the tank. The smaller ones that I can lift up, I cup the fish and dump the water down the drain. The larger ones, I use the gravel sipon to suck out the water. I have been told not to add the conditioner to the tank directly but add it to the bucket or whatever U use to collect the water and then ad it to the cycling tank.

Well mine is a ten gallon, and I'm a petite little girl. Hahaha. So I will probably end up using a siphon. And ok, I'll add the conditioner to the bowl first. What about the water I'm adding in terms of temperature? Is it ok to try and just get it as close as I can, or do I need a thermometer to make it exact?

Just try to guesstimate you don't have to be exact. I try to dump warmer water instead of colder water.

I pretty much guess by feeling the tank water and feeling the new water, sometimes I use a thermoter, probably safe to do it that way.
