New Betta Died?

Hi, I am new to this stuff and I recently bought 2 betta fish. I kept them in 2 1.5gallon bowls for a week and they were fine. I bought a 10 gallon aquarium yesterday ( http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...uctId=11164161 )
and the fish store gave me 3 packs of solution. One was the regular chlorine treatment one and the one was bacteria and one was waste removal or something like that. They told me to set everything up and put those in and then I can put my fish in 24 hours later.

I put both bettas in with a divider, and they both seemed pretty happy for a bit. Then one of them kept going down to the filter and started moving less, I found it dead a few hours later ;(. The other one just hangs around the heater right now.

What happened? I did everything the pet store told me to do, is the filter too strong on that tank? If it is I can reduce the flow by putting a plant in front of it.

Nope I used just a little more than said on the package, because they said its better to over use than under.

The water was the same temperature.

My tank is around 78 - 80 F
It has a filter
It does not have any air rock
It is heated
It is 2 bettas divided

I feed my betta pellet
2 pellets twice a day

No water change yet I just got the tank
I added the things listed above

I don't have a tester

There was no appearance or behavior change.

The temperature isn't the only reason you acclimate fish. The Hardness, and PH can differ very much from tank to tank and not acclimating the fish can surely result in death

it's possible that they were sick from the pet store. it's very rare for a betta to just up and die. x: i've had ONE betta die in less than 24 hours after getting him, and i think he was already sick and stressed from conditions at the pet store.

Could the filter possibly be too strong? I will try covering the intake and reducing the force of the water coming out.
