So a LFS was closing...

It wasn't technically a LOCAL shop, and thankfully not the one I buy my regular supplies from (which is less than a five minute drive away from my house-- I am a very, very lucky person), but when I heard it was closing I had to go check it out.

Bettas were, to my surprise, all in wonderful condition. Their living conditions were small, but they were all kept in pristine water (all thirty-someodd of them) and none appeared to be sick or inattentive. I, of course, went in looking for a sick one and came out with two of the happiest boys I've ever met.

Anyway, here are Ross and Taffler! (That is a Canadian lit reference, you probably wouldn't get it unless you went through highschool in southern Ontario. Also I am kind of a loser.)

This is Ross. He is a beautiful peach veiltail and reflects blue in some parts and yellow in others. He's also got a cute little smudge of black on his mouth.

He is kind of a dork. His nickname is Peaches, which is also another Canadian lit reference and I AM SHUTTING UP NOW.

brb leaving

And this is Taffler. (Pardon the fingerprints on the glass.) I want to say he sort of looks like a mustard gas? And he has the neatest electric blue colour between his rays, which I love.

rahh puffy betta. Sometimes he floats around the tank puffed up just to show off.

His tank is kind of a work in progress at this point, largely because he's decided he likes flaring at the floor.

And just 'cause, an update on the OTHER new boys:

Idaho's tail has actually started growing back a bit! He's got a little baby tail. When I bought him I was convinced it wouldn't grow at all, but apparently he's going to prove me wrong.

GRRRRRRR

And also Veetor, who has come out of his shell marvelously since I brought him home. Haven't seen any evidence of marbling besides what he's already got going on, but I'm curious to see what he'll look like in a month or two.

Beautiful fish!!!

Taffler looks like a chocolate betta to me, but I might be wrong...I've got one that looks similar named Root Beer, but he doesn't have quite as much blue in his fins.

Ooh, that's a possibility. I'm not quite sure WHAT to call him-- my pattern-identification abilities apparently only extend to 'well that one's red' and 'that one's not red'.

I woke up this morning to find Taffler had built like three bubble nests. (None of them are really terribly large, but you know, it's the thought that counts.) This is super exciting for me-- all of my boys have built nests at one point or another, but usually it takes at least a week or so for them to get comfortable enough.
