Since I use a natural method to spawn-my systems can support fry for a week-10 days from the microorganisms/infusoria-then I start feeding newly hatched BBS-I only feed newly hatched BBS with the yolk sac intact for the first 2-3 weeks for best nutrition-the NHBBS are pretty small at this stage and contain the needed HUFA for the fry.

After the fry are 3-4 weeks of age they get NHBBS and BBS supplemented with HUFA.

Based on fry size-I start feeding my homemade food, mosquito larva, daphania and other aquatic critters I collect in my rain barrels.

Usually by 2-3 months I start them on processed food to wean them off live and homemade.

I fed microworms for the first time this year and I had a bad experience....I don't think I something right...so I don't blame the microworms.....they are easy to culture, harvest-but it must have been something about the way I fed them......But a lot of breeder use MW successfully.....

I start with microworms 2-3 days after free swimming. After two weeks or so I start mixing in BBS and by week 3 I start mixing in Hikari First Bites newborn food. Sadly thats as far as I got, but I presumed I would have started mixing in crushed pellets by week 5-6

When free swimming micro worms. After a few days I continue microworms and add a few bbs newly hatched. After 1 week it is mostly bbs and a few microworms for the late starters. I always add the microworms first as it helps even the larger fry to have a varied diet. At about 3 weeks it is mostly bbs. Today at three weeks I gave them a pinch of finely ground flake food. I did see some of them testing it. If they eat some it is vitamin enriched!

You can see which ones are eating the bbs as they get huge pink bellies.
