Flat-Nose Betta...?

I've been contacting a few breeders in search of a green dragon HMPK. One of them sent me a picture of this guy-



At first I only had the first picture. I couldn't tell if this betta actually had a flat nose, or if it was just a distortion in the glass. I asked him to send another angle of the same fish, and sure enough, the second picture confirms it.

SUCH a pity, as I'm in love with his coloring and would love to make a turquoise green dragon line. I'm wondering if it is a genetic defect that would be passed to offspring, or if it was just an injury from growing up?

Hmm, that's really weird... He may just not have prominent lips. Galileo has big lips, and I've heard of other people's fish having huge lips, too. Maybe it's a rarer occurence in which the lips are just less pronounced? Maybe ask the seller what the parents looked like and what their lineage was, if they know.
